Stock photography is photography or imagery that is used repeatedly for commercial and non-commercial purposes.
This type of photography use is very popular with designers, graphic artists, art directors, advertising agencies, and marketing professionals, in magazine ads, websites, and marketing brochures. It is commonly sold as either rights managed or royalty free. It is a cost effective method for customers to purchase high quality stock images, and is a great way for photographers to earn money from their collection of imagery. Stock photography is never going to replace good design because it’s created its own market for imagery.
It is a great way for photographers or those who just like to take pictures to make a little extra money, have a side-job, or have a career. Successful stock photos are often successful because they illustrate a concept. As a business stock photography is not about shooting for yourself anymore, it’s about shooting for your clients.
Stock photography is a collection of ready-made images of a variety of sundry people, places, and things the rights to which are readily available for purchase. This type of photography saves freelance writers or other users from having to take the needed photographs themselves or from having to hire a professional photographer to take photographs on assignment.
Stock photos are often purchased from brokers or companies who offer a wide range of different pictures. They are commonly used by graphic designers to create advertisements, websites, brochures and other creative for their company's promotions. This type of photography differs from assignment photography because it is not custom made to a person’s specifications.
Stock photography is usually available in multiple resolutions and graphic formats, to suit the needs of the publisher. It is a highly competitive industry your photos have to REALLY stand out. Stock photography is a big business and affordable stock is out there. Photography is an exciting business when you can make money off your passion.
